Privacy Policy

MongoKat (MK) is committed to protecting the privacy and rights of visitors to our site as well as to our contributors, and data sources. MongoKat’s privacy policy here is established to explain what inforamtion we collect through our site and how it is used, as well as protections for our members’, contributor’s personal information.

In this policy, “contributors” refers to MongoKat’s administrators, editors, authors, contributors to site content, who are all bound by laws and contract to ensure that their content provided to and presented on MK sites aligns with the rights/terms-of-use provided by their sources.

MK does not sell or rent contributor, visitor, and source information under any circumstance. Furthermore, MK does not share contributor, visitor and source information without prior consent except when compelled by law. These restrictions also apply to any contributor or source MK has a relationship with on or off site.

MK is located within the United States, and therefore transfers, processes, and stores information within the United States. However, we recognize that different countries have different levels of data protections, and we seek to adhere to as broad a level of protections to all users, contributors, and sources as possible. Information Gathered by MongoKat Sites

MongoKat provides content via its sites, data obtained on vistors and MK contributors differ depending on differing MongoKat sites.

Shared Logging

Our provider generally logs anonymized IP addresses, timestamps, URL and HTTP requests, Browser and browser version, to use for site statistics. Statistics are generalized month by month and is kept by our site provider. Furthermore, logging is performed irrespective of site, whether that is MongoKat’s WordPress site or otherwise.

To provide enhanced security MK does not retain any of this data on hand, and MK’s WordPress site does not retain any information that is not directly provided by visitors or contributors.


I – MongoKat WordPress Site

I.a: Accounts

On MK’s WordPress platform, we provide the following accounts from lowest level of access to highest. Information required for level of access is in addition of the requirements of the prior account levels.

Subscribers visitors who wish to create an subscriber account on MK’s WordPress site may do so, providing their email address. We also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username).

We retain the information of all subscribers unless the user requests for the deletion of the subscriber account. (See Deletion of Accounts.) Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

I.b: Comments

  1. When visitors leave comments on MK’s WordPress site we collect the data provided in the comments form, and also the visitor’s browser user agent string to help spam detection. Conversely to the default WordPress behaviour, we do not store IP addresses of those who comment on our site.
  2. If you have an account on MK’s WordPress site, information associated with your account will appear alongside your comment. In addition, if you use Gravatar, you profile picture will be also publically visible.

I.c: Media

  1. When uploading images to the website contributors should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. Furthermore, contributors and users should avoid publishing sensitive personal information irrespective of location on MK’s sites.
  2. Contributors must properly attribute content or sources used in content. Contributors are also responsible for their content respecting the rights of sources. (See the discussion on copyright & attribution below.)

I.d: Cookies

  1. If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
  2. If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
  3. When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
  4. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

I.e: Embedded content from other websites

  1. Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

  1. MongoKat does not sell or rent contributor, visitor, and source information under any circumstance. Furthermore, MK does not share contributor, visitor and source information without prior consent except when compelled by law.

I.g: How long we retain your data

  1. If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

I.h: What rights you have over your data

  1. If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

I.i: Where your data is sent

  1. MongoKat does not currently use any third party provider for comment moderation.
